Companies that promote accessibility in the workplace (as a form of inclusion) as well as diversity are attracting more employees and loyal customers. Statistics show that individuals have a growing interest in working for and supporting companies committed to these initiatives. As a result, digital accessibility has become more top of mind with the influx of technology and new preferred modes of communication. Digital accessibility involves ensuring all information and communication technology is accessible to all viewers and participants.

Now, let’s think about accessibility from our clients’ perspective. Pega clients rely on us to deliver some of the most important experiences in peoples’ lives. Our clients use Pega to help their customers buy homes, file insurance claims, find healthcare opportunities, and so much more. Governments rely on Pega to deliver services on which their citizens depend. We do not take lightly our commitment to delivering world class digital experiences that our clients can rely on to serve everyone and anyone.

It’s important our clients understand that Pega is committed to creating accessible and inclusive experiences for users of its platform and related applications. We continually strive towards improving our experience and adhering to international standards.

We’ve invested in services in our platform to support accessibility and to help clients do more. Some of those services include:

  • Built-in Accessibility Inspector Tool that runs an automated accessibility test while you design your application
  • User interface design guide to create accessible applications
  • Accessibility-specific configurations for user interfaces

These services demonstrate our commitment and our passion to deliver better, more accessible experiences for our clients and their customers.

Read our accessibility statement to understand exactly how Pega supports accessibility.

Pega scores big on the 2022 Disability Equality Index Report

The Disability Equality Index (DEI) report and index inform companies of the best emerging business practices and points them toward peers in the business community that are already high performers. Participating companies receive a scorecard outlining areas in which the company excels, as well as areas of improvement. 75% of companies apply for the DEI report more than once in order to gain long-term benchmarks and to ensure sustainable results. Aggregate benchmarks inform measurable and actional progress over time.

We applied to this DEI report to establish a benchmark to see where we are with disability equality and inclusion throughout our organization and identify areas where we can do better. We are so excited and proud to share that Pega received the highest possible score of 100 and the distinction of “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” This score establishes Pega as a model to other organizations and will help us attract some of the best employees and customers out there.

Continuous improvements for disability inclusion at Pega

Disability inclusion is a key part of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG). Disability is a social issue (the S in ESG). Companies that are more diverse perform better. Our 100 score in the 2022 DEI report informs our roadmap for what we want to accomplish with our newest employee resource group (ERG), PwD@Pega.

Pega introduced its latest ERG, PwD@Pega (Persons with Disabilities), at the start of 2022 and appointed us as the global co-chairs based on our own personal experiences and passion for this initiative. We teamed up with the PwD community to discuss and craft our unified mission statement:

"We will raise understanding of visible and invisible disability and break unconscious bias, thereby creating a culture of transparency and a buoyant community where everyone can thrive."

We are all proud of the community that is emerging, and the level of transparency all members are showing. PwD@Pega also has a strong community of allies, which is very exciting as this demonstrates the level of interest and support throughout the broader workplace:

“This group reminds me that we really never know who is struggling and for what reason. People may have disabilities that are completely hidden, and although I own the fact that I am a judging kind of person, I very much want to exhibit empathy to my direct reports, customers, and partners in all my work - and life!”

“I am the first visually impaired resource hired in Pega India, and I joined this group because knowing about this group gave me great confidence of Pega being an inclusive place to work, and I could learn about so many other disabilities besides visual impairment. I am an Accessibility Specialist at Pega and it is definitely relevant for me to know about other disabilities in person, rather than just reading about it theoretically. Also, this group gives me motivation to enhance the culture in my regional office.”

As PwD@Pega continues to grow, we want to focus on tangible actions and continue to improve upon best practices. We are focused on ALL aspects of disability diversity – not just a measure of benefits or culture. With the 2022 DEI report results and index, it’s easier for us to execute change within our ERG and across the organization, and we can continue to measure our success as we build out this community.
