Pegasystems introduces new connectors to enable rapid exchange of electronic health records for better patient care

Pega FHIR APIs give healthcare organizations improved data access to support a wider ecosystem of patient support and care

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – November 28, 2016 – Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA), the software company empowering customer engagement at the world’s leading enterprises, today announced Pega® FHIR APIs, which are connectors that allow healthcare payers and providers to quickly adopt the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards framework for exchanging patient information. With these new connectors, payers and providers can break down existing data siloes and securely gain access to valuable patient information for better service and care.

To provide optimal patient experiences, healthcare organizations need patient-centric health record systems that unify all elements of care, including clinical, administrative, public health, and research data. FHIR, created by Health Level Seven International (HL7), helps connect these disparate systems with a common standard to break down siloes that can increase costs and lower patient satisfaction. Healthcare technology vendors can adopt broad and deep FHIR integration to enable their clients to facilitate better support and care for patients.

Pega FHIR APIs provide an out-of-the-box solution that quickly, easily, and securely integrates FHIR-compatible applications from a variety of vendors with Pega healthcare applications. Once Pega FHIR APIs are installed and configured, users gain rapid access to patient data without the time consuming task of manually creating integrations with existing clinical systems. As a result, all members of the healthcare community are ensured seamless, patient-centric care and service.

For example, a provider can access a patient’s data to create a personalized care plan based on medical history and patient context, including real-time data from connected medical devices. From the payer side, an insurer can quickly review previously fragmented clinical information to answer patient questions, such as determining if a specific procedure is covered by insurance.

Pega FHIR APIs are available now for download on the Pega Exchange. Additional information on Pega’s healthcare solutions can be found at https://www.pega.com/industries/healthcare.

Quotes & Commentary:

“Many healthcare organizations still struggle to overcome organizational siloes, which prevents them from having full visibility into patients’ data across the care continuum,” said Susan Taylor, vice president and business line leader, healthcare, Pegasystems. “These new connectors enable Pega clients to access a broader ecosystem of information that drives better health, administrative, and financial outcomes. With Pega FHIR APIs, care teams are empowered to improve collaboration and transform the quality of care for patients.”
